Michael Jacksons daughter joined his loved ones in paying tribute to the late star as the world bid its final farewell to the ‘King of Pop’
Paris, 11, was surrounded by the singers siblings on stage at Los Angeles Staples Centre on Tuesday (07.07.09) as she broke down trying to tell the audience at his memorial service how much he meant to her and her brothers, Prince Michael I, 12, and Prince Michael II, seven.
She said: Ever since I was born, daddy has been the best daddy ever, and I just want to say I love him so much.
Mourners at the service saw renditions of the singers greatest hits performed by some of the worlds biggest music stars including Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie, Usher, John Mayer and Jennifer Hudson.
Among those paying tribute to the iconic stars life were his rumoured former girlfriend Brooke Shields.
Struggling not to break down throughout her lengthy speech, Brooke recalled her pure, one-of-a-kind friends sense of fun.
The actress said: “He was often referred to as the King but the Michael that I knew was always the little prince. Michael saw everything with his heart.
When we were together we were just two kids having fun. Michael loved to laugh, his heart would burst out of him when he laughed. He loved it when I did silly imitations or told him stories. MJs laugh was the sweetest and purest laugh of anyone I ever knew. It was always a competition to see who could make the other one laugh more or be sillier.
Telling the 20,000-strong crowd Michaels favourite song had been Charlie Chaplins Smile, she then left the stage while his brother Jermaine who along with his siblings was wearing a single white sequined glove in tribute to Michaels iconic stage outfit – performed the track to a standing ovation.
Long-time friend Smokey Robinson who opened the service by reading tributes from Nelson Mandela and Diana Ross – said in his second address he was delighted to have known the star and vowed never to forget him.
He said: “I’m glad that I lived in this era. I believe so much in God. I believe so much that this is not it. We have life after this is done. So my brother is in a place now where he is most certainly going to live forever in the hereafter, so he’s going to live forever twice, because he’s going to live forever here because the world will never ever forget Michael Jackson.”
Prior to his performance, Stevie Wonder spoke of his distress at Michaels passing at the age of just 50 – from a suspected cardiac arrest – saying he wished he hadnt been alive to see it.
He said: “This is a moment that I wished that I didn’t live to see come. But as much that I can say that I mean it, I do know that God is good and I do know that as much as we may feel – and we do – that we need Michael here with us, God must have needed him far more.”
Motown Records founder Berry Gordy Jr. hailed Michaels creative genius, describing him as the most talented artist who ever lived.
He said: “Michael Jackson went into orbit and never came down. Though it ended way too soon, Michael Jackson’s life was beautiful.
The more I talk about Michael Jackson, the more I feel the King of Pop is not big enough for him. I think he is simply the greatest entertainer that ever lived.
Other speakers at the service at which Michaels flower-covered solid bronze coffin was on display at the front of the stage included basketball players Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant, Queen Latifah, Rev. Al Sharpton, Martin Luther King III and choreographer Kenny Ortega.
Prior to the star-studded memorial service, a private family funeral had taken place at the Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The ‘Poker Face’ singer – who is known for her outrageous fashion choices and skimpy outfits – is delighted many of her admirers are prepared to permanently ink their skin to show their devotion to her.
She said: “This fan got this amazing tattoo on his arm, this massive Lady Gaga tattoo that was very intricate and very detailed and in it I was wearing this crystal outfit – but this thing was like an art piece. I was so flattered because tattoos are for life.”
Lady GaGa is confident she is one of only a handful of stars whose fans are prepared to put themselves through physical pain.
She explained: “I should imagine that most pop stars don’t experience that kind of gesture. I mean, it was a really big tattoo all the way down his arm. Pretty rock ‘n’ roll!”
The 23-year-old outrageous singer – who recently posed topless for a photo shoot in V Magazine – has also vowed to calm down her party girl lifestyle. She said: “I’m not a go-out-and-party girl. I’m actually taking every minute I have to myself to write music and be in the studio right now.”

Courteney Cox insists her marriage has never been better
The former ‘Friends’ actress – who has been plagued by constant rumours her 10-year union to David Arquette is in trouble – says she is enjoying every aspect of her life and never imagined she could be so happy.
Courtney – who has a five-year-old daughter Coco with David – said: “I can honestly say that I have the best marriage, the best husband and the best daughter. They are the things that have given me real happiness – so much more than anything else. I don’t think I ever thought I would end up as happy as I am today.
“What I love about David is that he thinks I’m a great wife. Isn’t that fantastic? I love that. And he tells me, too, which is even better.” The 45-year-old star also revealed she has only just become comfortable with her looks.
She told Grazia magazine: “When I was younger I did struggle with my confidence. I was self-critical and I guess suddenly becoming famous puts all this pressure on you, people talking about the way you look and what you wear. When I look back at old pictures of myself now, I think, ‘Hey, I looked great,’ but at the time I was always worrying. I actually feel so much better about myself now but it has taken time to feel this way.”

Jennifer Aniston’s beloved dog doesn’t like her to make new friends
The 40-year-old actress’ pet pooch Norman accompanies Jennifer wherever she goes and joined her while she was filming hit movie ‘Marley and Me’ – about a couple struggling to cope with the arrival of a badly behaved dog.
However, Norman avoided going on set too much because he was jealous of the pooches who were filming with his star owner.
Marke Forbes, the dog trainer on ‘Marley and Me’, told BANG Showbiz: “We really didn’t mix the dogs very much. The last thing we wanted was the dogs to not get along or get distracted from what they were supposed to be doing on any given day. Norman was a very laid back pooch and would usually hang out at Jennifer’s trailer.”
Although Norman was wary of the other dogs, Jennifer – who starred opposite Owen Wilson in the movie, which is released on DVD and Blu-ray on July 6 – got on really well with her canine co-stars and even enjoyed a few sloppy kisses with one particular pooch.
Mark revealed: “I don’t know about embarrassing moments but there were plenty of sloppy kisses. ‘Clyde’ was our most active and ‘Marley like’ of all the dogs so we used him quite a bit in the movie and he was always jumping up on Jennifer and Owen, knocking them down, kissing them… Owen and Jen were incredibly good sports about the whole thing.”
