Tributes to Michael Jackson dominated the BET (Black Entertainment Television) Awards last night (28.06.09)
Joe Jackson – the father of the 50-year-old pop legend, who died of a suspected cardiac arrest last Thursday (25.06.09) – was one of the first to pay homage to his son, speaking about him on the red carpet at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium.
He said: “I wish the world had recognised him when he was living. Right now, he’s bigger than ever. But I wish he was here to see all this, to hear all this.”
Janet Jackson also made an appearance, and thanked Michael’s fans for all their support in the wake of his passing.
She said: “My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was just too painful so they elected me to speak with all of you.
“I would just like to say that to you, Michael is an icon. To us, Michael is family, and he will forever live in all of our hearts.
“On behalf of my family and myself, thank you for all your love – thank you for all your support. We miss him so much.”
Jamie Fox hosted the show, and entered wearing a red leather jacket in a nod to Michael’s costume in the music promo for ‘Beat It’.
After the event opened to a medley of Jackson 5 songs – including ‘ABC’ and ‘The Love You Save’ – Jamie walked onto the stage to ‘Beat It’.
He said: “No need to be sad. We want to celebrate this black man. We are going to go through all of Michael Jackson.”
The singer-and-actor also performed Michael’s signature dance move the moonwalk and performed the Jackson 5 hit ‘I’ll Be There’ alongside Stevie Wonder and Ne-Yo as images of the late King of Pop flashed up on a big screen.
Winners at the BET Awards included Beyonce Knowles, who took home a prize for her ‘Single Ladies’ video. The 27-year-old singer was also named Best Female R’n'B Artist.
Ne-Yo was crowned Best Male R’n'B Artist, while Lil Wayne won the Best Male Hip-Hop Artist accolade.
Other winners included M.I.A. in the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist category, Best Actor went to Will Smith and Taraji P. Henson was named Best Actress.
Many stars paid tribute to Michael throughout the show.
Male Athlete of the Year, basketball star LeBron James, said: “My heart and prayers go out to the whole Jackson family. What they did for us was amazing.”
Beyonce Knowles, Alicia Keyes and Wyclef Jean all also mentioned Michael.
Ne-Yo’s rendition of Michael’s hit ‘Lady In My Life’ reduced Joe to tears, while Ciara covered ‘Heal The World’.

Peter Andre has declared war on estranged wife Katie Price
The ‘Mysterious Girl’ singer is said to be furious with the “vicious slurs” the glamour model has been making against him and has called an urgent meeting with advisers and friends to decide his next move.
A source said: “He is fuming about what’s been said. He’s going to meet his people to see what can be done. As far as he’s concerned, it’s a new low, getting pals to take sides and make vicious slurs.”
Katie – also known as Jordan – has blamed the break-up of their three-year marriage on Peter and now her friends are starting to publicly attack him.
Former Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton – who was Katie’s bridesmaid at their 2005 wedding – defended her pal, saying she had been unfairly treated by the media.
She said: “It makes me furious when I see the stick Kate is getting. She is made out to be the baddie.
“The simple fact is that he left Kate. She is a strong woman though and she refuses to play the victim.”
Peter – who raises three children with Katie, Harvey, seven, Junior, four, and two-year-old Princess Tiaamii – wants to defend himself but doesn’t want to behave in the way Katie has.
A source said: “Kate can do what she wants. Peter won’t get involved in tit-for-tat accusations. He knows how it looks to the public. He’s happy for Kate to continue self-destructing.”

Lily Allen had her own private helicopter on standby at the Glastonbury music festival
The ‘Not Fair’ singer boasted to other stars backstage about having the chopper ready to fly her out at a moment’s notice this weekend.
Singer Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine said she told Lily: “Wouldn’t it be amazing if you actually had a helicopter on standby when you clicked your fingers?”
According to Britain’s The Sun newspaper Lily replied: “That is my reality. The heli is ready to go when I want. I thought I’d get one in case I get ‘the fear’.
“That way I can do my crying away from prying eyes on the way home.”
Lily, 24, reportedly had the helicopter on standby in case she wanted to leave the event if she became too upset over the anniversary of her grandmother’s death.
Last year she also had a helicopter to take her to the festival, courtesy of her collaborator Mark Ronson.
The super producer had jokingly offered Lily “anything you want, a car, a driver, a helicopter” when she agreed to join him on stage at the event but was stunned when her assistant called him with a £5,000 quote for the helicopter she had booked.
Mark said: “She completely took me seriously! And what was I going to say at that point? I had to pay for it. She got the helicopter.”

Russell Crowe serenaded staff at a Welsh pub before leaving them a £600 tip
The 45-year-old actor – who is in Wales filming his latest movie ‘Robin Hood’ – surprised locals when he took nine friends for a meal at the Carew Inn, near Tenby, last week.
The party ate mussels and a Jamie Oliver-inspired chicken dish before belting out Bryan Adams’ ‘Summer of ’69′ and Peter, Paul and Mary’s ‘Leaving On A Jet Plane’.
When he had finished singing, Russell paid the £240 bill and returned to his trailer on the movie set, leaving a wad of bills on his table.
A member of staff said: “Now if anyone badmouths him I tell them to shut up. He could have paid and just left but they stayed instead and entertained us.
“Then he paid us that tip – it’s the last thing you expect. He seemed quite friendly and chatty like a really nice guy, and he had a great singing voice.”
Another staff member added: “It was surreal. When they first got here they sat in the garden but people started trying to sneak around and take pictures of them so they moved inside. Two of them were some kind of bodyguards because they were walking around constantly, it was quite intimidating.
“But later he came into the kitchen and gave us all his autograph and we had a quick chat. Then he gave my boss the tip and they left. We were like, ‘Did that just happen?’ “

Ana Ortiz has given birth to a daughter
The ‘Ugly Betty’ star is “elated” after she and her husband, musician Noah Lebenzon, welcomed Paloma Louise into the world on Saturday (27.06.09).
A spokesperson for the star said: “She is elated and completely glowing. She is surrounded by her friends and family and so happy to be a mom. “She is just really enjoying the moment. The baby is absolutely beautiful.”
Paloma – the couple’s first child – weighed 7lbs 10oz when she was born at 4.25pm in New York.
Mark Indelicato – who plays Ana’s son in ‘Ugly Betty’ – is delighted by the news and says his 38-year-old co-star has the perfect maternal skills.
He said: “She will be an amazing mom. Ana has the biggest heart and she’s so loving. She’s also laidback and chilled but at the same time she’s forceful and knows how to discipline someone if she has to be. It’s the perfect combination in being a great mom. She’s done it with me a bunch of times when I got out of line. She’s definitely my second mom.”
During her pregnancy, Ana said she was “really enjoying” the experience of carrying her first child.
She said: “I’ve heard lots of horror stories, but I’m actually really, really enjoying this.”

Heidi Montag Sells Nudity For Playboy
Raise your hand if you want to see Heidi Montag nude in Playboy magazine. I will assume no one raised their hands. The rumour going through the Tubes of the Interweb (most likely started by Heidi herself) is that the rediculously annoying and vapid Hills douchette, and her douche husband, The Pratt, are in talk with Playboy to have Heidi pose nude for $500,000. I didn’t think Playboy even had $500,000 left, but if they do, why spend it on that fake hag. They have plenty of other fake hags they can put in their magazine who are hotter, cuter, and smarter (and much less annoying). And even though we’ve already seen Audrina Patridge nude, I’d much rather see her in Playboy than Heidi.
Vanessa Hudgens sexier then ever
It’s been a while since we’ve seen or heard about Vanessa Hudgens, and in all likelihood, now that the High School Musical stuff is over, we probably never will again, so while she’s still in the public eye, it’s good that Self magazine shot Vanessa Hudgens bikini pictures. Here’s hoping they come up with some lame reason to hold Vanessa’s character back a year, because I just don’t think the idea of College Musical is going to work.
A Little Jessica Simpson’s Cleavage Tease
Heres Jessica Simpson in some boring pictures for Vanity Fair Magazine trying to give us a peek at her cleavage but not doing a very good job at it. I understand the photographer probably wants the pictures to be tasteful and classy but thats not going to sell magazines. Jessica Simpson in daisy dukes wrestling a greased up pig on the other hand would hit the New York Times best seller list. At least she looks like shes getting closer to her fighting weight.

Kristin Cavallari In A Very Tight Pink Dress
Kristin Cavallari was at the Star Trek premiere too and it looks like shes following Amanda Bynes footsteps by showing off her jobless legs in a tight pink dress. Its working, because now I have a job for her, but thats if shes up for it. I pay by the hour and I expect full service. None of this one shot crap and then youre gone. Man, I hate that!
